i What ever happened to self-deprecatory humor, fad diets, buzzwords, fan theories, poorly-researched-but-bold new mainstream scientific theories, and (indie) rock-'n-roll?

o i was fully prepared to post an answer saying that this was an imagined trend that had no basis in reality, but at the same time........ i kinda feel it too. i think that each of these things, at least as far as i've experienced them, are deeply tied to the internet. and it doesn't take much to notice that the internet has been changing a lot in recent years, particularly with the slow loss of whatever "monoculture" might've at one point existed. and yet, despite these things being less widely prevalent, i'm absolutely certain that each of them is still present and thriving in the world (read this website for more than 5 seconds to find a truckload of that first item, assuming you don't die a horrible boredom-induced death first (---humour amiright?))

i which number is better, 0 or 1?

o on one (1) hand i'd love to pick a number, but on the zeroth (0) hand oops my hands have been nullified by the ruthless nature of mathematics

i well i am you actually im you from another universe. and you (me) from another universe is telling you (who is also me) to get on adhd meds

o alas, i've yet to get the "focus on the damn topic!! pill" due to an intense lack of focus on that particular topic

i honestly the way i've been able to lock tf in (especially for school) is constantly changing my environment. like i NEVERRR do my work at home cause my ass is just not gonna do it.if i go to a library where i can only do school stuff on the computers, the magical library magic works on me. it doesn't even have to be the library. anywhere where i can't get too comfortable means i literally have no choice but to just get the work done. also adhd meds. that helps too.

(however i'm currently putting off a two hour exam that's due tomorrow night so don't listen to me</3)

o now this is eerie, because i'm convinced i'm talking to me. but i strongly agree on the location-changing front, though i usually just pull that out for the miserable stuff i actually really DON'T wanna be doing (typically something with a looming deadline). and even then, the intensity of my resistance to some tasks is occasionally enough to overcome that effect. but oh well. with respect to the stuff i DO wanna be doing, sometimes going somewhere else is useful, but i find that it's far less critical. if i'm motivated enough to pack up my entire setup and go somewhere else, then i'm usually motivated enough to just sit and work, although the change of scenery is sometimes nice. the real trick is just finding that energy to work at all........

i why do i waste so much time on stupid bullshit that i barely enjoy doing whenever i have plenty of free time that i could be using to do the things i actually enjoy doing and always complain of never having enough time to do?

o oh hi! glad u found ur way to the "i can't do anything to save my fucking life" club, of which i am a full time member. this is one of the most overwhelmingly persistent issues in my life, so i'm not totally sure, but i have ideas. a common factor anytime this happens to me is that the "less enjoyable" thing is actually way way easier to do/access, and generally provides oh so much of that sweet sweet stimulation (dopamine!!!) as opposed to the "enjoyable" thing which requires a lot of focused effort, or might just be less instantly stimulating (and damnit, so often my brain is weirdly put off by the idea of just..... focusing on something). because of this, when i have a lot of free time in a given day, i'll often think "oh, i have so much time today, let's just do it later!" and then oops it's 2am and nothing happened. wake up, repeat cycle
so, what's to be done? i...... do not know what the full solution is, but i've made the issue marginally better by reducing my access to the instantly-stimulating things i'd rather not be doing (youtube, twitter, etc). but the key things to note here are that 1) you WILL find new and unique ways to get around whatever blockers you put up. you lock down the phone? suddenly you're using your computer more. lock down the computer? eventually you remember "oh wait, didn't my computer come with a default browser that i haven't locked down yet?" and on and on it goes. so be prepared for a long game of whack-a-mole. and 2) there should probably be some intentional holes in the blockade, ie giving yourself free access to the blocked websites at the end of the night (because otherwise you're gonna try WAY harder to get around those blockers you worked so hard to set up, rendering them useless)
but this is all quite reactive. proactively, it helps to know EXACTLY what you wanna be doing. the second a task loses clear definition, your brain has the space to imagine every awful thing that it *might* be, making it infinitely harder to sit down and do it. it also helps to have deadlines of existential importance. those help a lot..... although they're extremely tough to fabricate in a convincing way......
but honestly.... i really don't know. i struggle with this every single day, and it's tough. more recently i've been tryna tackle the issue via being less hard on myself when i inevitably have bad days, because i've slowly accepted that this isn't going away. but even that's hard when i have such high expectations for myself. giving yourself the leeway to spend some time fucking around is really important (by doing things that might not be The Task, but are still enjoyable, like going for a walk, messing around with your instrument, or hanging out with friends) because ultimately, the name of the game is Being Alive, so there's no sense in living an entire life filled with dread about productivity related to the tasks that you invented
((although i seem to be doing my best to live that dread-filled life anyways. don't mind me, that last paragraph is actually just me screaming at myself oops))

i Has love ever saved anyone?

o i think everyone feels love at some point or another. this could include love for other people, but it could also include love of a song you really like, or love of a cool neighbourhood you like spending time in. loving things contextualizes for a person's entire existence. so if that's what it means for someone to be "saved" then hell yes

2026.04.14 02:45

i what is minimally required for a minimal universe (not necessarily ours)?

o space, time, and something capable of experiencing it

i "the good news is that the sun continues to rise on a steady basis, regardless of what else happens. it's a very comforting cycle that we all could stand to learn from."
-Bill Wurtz, note
September 13, 2012, 6:37

Could this line of thinking have a clue of how we get from _is_ to _ought_? of how the sun justifies itself? and how we, us conscious entities, can, like stars like planets, justify ourselves?

o that note feels pretty similar to what i wrote about here -> 2026.04.01 04:04. i think that the entire universe justifies itself to itself by existing. if thunderstorm rolls in on a hot summer afternoon, this is justified because it happened. one could make a thousand proclamations of what "ought to be", but these statements are in a superposition until something actually happens. it is only then that the superposition of "what ought to be" statements collapses, allowing for one to be assigned retroactively. because ultimately, the set of all possible events in the universe is far, far too vast for any conscious entity to make prescriptions of what should be in every situation. some things, like sunrises, are just gonna happen. where this gets far more interesting and complicated is when you bring conscious people into the mix....... (and this is a can of worms i don't have time for right now, unfortunately)

2026.04.13 01:23

i ¿spoops oro sdoods? just kidding, my question is, Is evil in a clam? In a trap?

o i just heard on the news that as of today, all evil in the world is contained within a Clam Trapped in a Clam-Trapping Clam Trap

i Love won't save the world. Could hate?

o woahhhh hang on, that's a hell of an assumption (that i so strongly disagree with)

2026.04.01 04:04

i no but like, what's your take on the is-ought problem?

o ok, after looking this up, the last few questions suddenly make a lot more sense next to each other. i think that "what ought to be" is derived in the minds of conscious entities from the unique combinations of everything previously experienced. and yet, that doesn't always relate to what "is", which is insead a product of these "what ought to be" statements, the exact opposite of these statements, everything in-between those extremes, and actually mostly none of that, because stars and planets went right ahead and formed anyways
